XOR create innovative Wii/PC learning game for AAT

10 November 2008

XOR are proud to announce the development of an innovative flash game for clients AAT (the Association of Accounting Technicians).

AAT - who represent some 100,000 members and students worldwide - are constantly looking for ways in which technology can be used to assist tutors and students. Like many other professional bodies, they are also continually looking for ways to get young people interested in their subject area.

Having been approached by AAT, XOR soon came up with the idea of a web-based flash game that teaches the rudiments of double-entry book-keeping - a cornerstone of accounting practice.

Aimed at new students, "Balance the Books" stands out from its peers by being both an enjoyable game and having genuine pedagogical value.

A learning mode helps familiarises the user with the educational content while the game proper gets players to balance the books of a business in a highly visual, memorable and tactile fashion.

The tactile aspects of game play are further enhanced by playing "Balance the Books" on the Nintendo Wii. Partly designed with the Wii in mind (the game runs on Flash in the console's Opera browser), learners can utilise the wireless Wiimote control to play the game. This adds to the fun and makes for an even more engaging learning experience.

The game also features a high-score table - so players from across the country can register their scores - and facts and figures about AAT.

AAT have been delighted by the end result, which has now been made fully available to students and tutors.
